Southern States University (SSU) is a for-profit American university with four locations in Southern California.[1] The Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer is John Tucker.

History

The institution was founded in 1983, originally in Orange County, California.[2] Its current owner is Tepper Technologies, Inc., which purchased it in 2005.[3]

Southern States University (SSU) is a private school in Southern California with over 650 active students from more than 25 countries The school has four campuses in San Diego and one campus in Newport Beach. SSU has a master’s and bachelor’s degree programs in Business Administration, as well as a non degree English language program.

Locations

SSU is based in San Diego, California. It has campuses in San Diego, the San Diego area communities of San Marcos and La Jolla, and Newport Beach, California.[2][4]

Accreditation and approvals

Southern States University was accredited in August 2010 by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools in August 2010,[5] a national accreditor in the United States. SSU has maintained "Institutional Approval" status from the California Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) since the University's acquisition by Tepper Technologies in 2006, certifying that it has continued to meet the state's statutory requirements for a private postsecondary institution.[6]

Controvery

According to a news release from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on June 17, 2011,[7] the owner, Carmen Tepper, was charged with an 11-count indictment in the attempt to defraud the U.S. government by issuing I-20 forms to students who no longer attended or fell out of the attendance laws with an F1 student visa as long as the students paid tuition.[7]
